Workers Compensation Case Closure Program

An open case is a bad case. The ultimate goal of a claim handling organization is to bring a case to closure. Typically, claims run their course over a period of time. Some organizations are better than others in shortening the time until the file is stamped "CLOSED". Invariably, a hard-core group of open cases evolve. These are cases that have presented obstacles to customary settlement efforts, exhausting the constraints or skill-set of the file handlers. These difficult cases are the ones we target with our closure program.

Frequently, these difficult and mature cases are assigned to a "maintenance" adjuster who simply continues to allow the case to progress with a view of making the case as easy as possible to administer. This is just the opposite of the aggressive and creative approach we bring to the table.

These old open cases represent a threat to the success of your risk management objectives. These cases:

  • Account for a disproportionate share of outstanding reserves.
  • Have the potential to escalate beyond current expectations.
  • Prevent a particular policy segment from being closed.
